October Door Drop Newsletter

by Team on 01/11/2012

Don’t underestimate the value of testing door drops, whatever your personal preference or perceptions

This month’s newsletter primarily concentrates on the art of testing.

But rather than expand upon our own thoughts again, why not read those of a highly respected industry guru?

We are delighted to welcome this month’s guest writer – Marc Michaels; formerly Director of Direct Marketing & Evaluation at the now defunct COI, Marc has been described as “arguably one of the most powerful men in direct marketing over the last two decades”.

If you are a regular reader of our newsletters and Graham’s blogs, you will recall that testing is a subject we touch on quite regularly; or rather we touch on the lack of testing.

If you also subscribe to the blogs and articles written by our good friends Andy Owen and Drayton Bird, you will also know it’s an issue on which they commonly focus as well.

Interestingly in the last few months, we have received an increasing number of enquiries from potential new clients, who have admitted to having no real knowledge of door drops, seeking our guidance.

Or contact from clients seeking to “return” to a medium they have not used for some years and seeking an update of options and opportunities.

We are of course always delighted to help and have an interesting array of test campaigns lined up for November – with one or two more still to confirm!

Graham sat around the now defunct DMA Door Drop Council table with Marc for several years and it is his view that when Marc spoke, you listened.

Marc has also just chaired the judging of this year’s DMA Door Drop Award and participated in the judging of the DMA Grand Prix Award.

He is also one of nicest people you could wish to meet.

So we would recommend you read and digest Marc’s article, visit his website and/or contact him direct on marc.michaels@ntlworld.com for advice you might find difficult to better.

We regard Marc as an independent and impartial expert on door drops and would be delighted at any opportunity of working with you, perhaps on a plan created by Marc?

Royal Mail door drops

The Christmas rush is very definitely under way, but there is still a window of opportunity if you have not completed your planning cycle.

It is still possible to book activity from the middle of November, but as at October 29th, that does only leave 4 distribution weeks before Christmas, so time is running out.

We are also experiencing a flurry of bookings for early/mid January and with bulk supply deadlines for the early weeks of the New Year realistically being 2012, if you have not thought about your activity yet, it might be wise to do so.

Just send us your brief and as part of our response, we will identify postal sector availability through our FREE, no obligation review service.

Whilst reviewing your distribution requirements, we will also consider the value and necessity of free newspapers and solus to help achieve your marketing objectives, which will of course include our specialist targeting and distribution service SMART-Drop.

Graham’s Blog

Published last week, Graham’s blog focuses on the issue of distributor and vehicle trackers in the team marketplace.

Having undertaken research with suppliers across the UK and canvassed the opinion of some clients, Graham reviews what’s available in the supplier arena and what value is attached to tracking.
