Royal Mail price increases, scary industry news and a guest article about testing

Welcome to our first official newsletter of 2013.

Our special edition on January 4th solely dealt with the issue of Royal Mail door to door price increases and those headlines are again highlighted below.

But this edition also contains a number of other important features and we would urge you to find 5 minutes to read the newsletter.

Royal Mail 2013 door drop price increases

From Monday April 8th 2013 all prices will increase by between 3-5%.

But bookings confirmed by Friday March 15th can be completed at current rate card.

And bookings can be made up to 13 months in advance – so booking prior to March 15th will safeguard your direct costs for 2013.

Call Graham or Neal on 01992 637333 and we will help you through the booking maze.

There has been a stampede of interest since our last newsletter, so particularly if your competitors are also Royal Mail D2D users, immediate action can safeguard your door drop plans.

Industry News

On a number of occasions in the last couple of years, we have featured articles and written blogs about buying “solus” door drop services ‘on the cheap’.

As we have always advised, if you are being told solus distribution can be provided at £35/40/45.00 per 1,000 be afraid, be very afraid!

We appreciate in these difficult times that every pound counts, but you, the client, are potentially the real losers in the long run.

The year started with news of the demise of one particular distribution company.

And there is a new website set up, which for legal reasons we will not publish a link to, that identifies another West Country distribution company which as at July 2012, had NINE unsatisfied county court judgements against them!!!

And they are still trading!

This new website is asking disgruntled customers to post links, so there may possibly be more by now!

But why risk your precious marketing budget with charlatans?

At least use door drop companies who are members of the Direct Marketing Association, who have been vetted and comply with industry standards.

It’s not necessarily foolproof, but it’s a start.

Neither of the above have ever been members of the DMA.

Guest Article

Our first guest contributor of the year is David Cole, Managing Director of fast.MAP, publishers of the annual Marketing Gap report and providers of a host of services.

Last year, Marc Michaels wrote an article on the importance of testing – which increasingly appears to be a dying art – but in David’s article he explains how you can test quickly and affordably.

The article also includes a case history.

A great read – click here for the full article.

In case you missed our last newsletter, here is our latest client testimonial.

In November 2012, Monarch Airlines became another major household name to use SMART-Drop in a multi media campaign, more details of which can be found by clicking this link.

Already in 2013, we have won new business for the next few months from new clients in the f.m.c.g. and charity sectors, whilst opening discussions with other charities, direct response advertisers and retailers.

SMART-Drop can be used as a standalone solution, but has most commonly been used in conjunction with Royal Mail D2D drops and we would be delighted at any opportunity of talking you through this process.
